Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy massage

Aromatherapy involves the use of aromatic plant essential oils and has both health and beauty treatment applications. Aromatherapy massage is unique because it makes use of two close range senses, those of touch and smell. This method of gentle hypnotic massage, uses potentially powerful medicinal applications. Some essential oils are thought to have powerful antibacterial properties while others are used to assist in relieving stress, depression, insomnia and premenstrual syndrome. The massage itself is very relaxing as very little pressure is used, and the potent properties of the essential oils are absorbed into the skin as the oil is spread over the body. You will gain benefit from smelling the aromas that are released as the oil is applied.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the lifeblood of a plant – they strengthen its immunity to disease and maintain healthy growth. By extracting essential oils from plants, their healing qualities can be harnessed and applied to our own bodies.

Essential oils work both on a physical level (by being absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream), as well as on a psychological level via the olfactory system (through vapourisation or direct inhalation).

Essential Oils are produced in a variety of ways – by steam distillation, expressing, infusion and solvent extraction.

Aromatherapy massage

Aromatherapy massage soothes and balances the nervous system via a hypnotic massage style that stimulates the lymphatic system and circulation of blood, while at the same time increasing the availability of oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues. The result is a relaxation of muscles and mind and a nourishing of the skin.

During the initial consultation your therapist will discuss with you your reasons for choosing an Aromatherapy massage, as this will assist in the selection of essential oils appropriate for your needs. There are hundreds of essential oils that can be used for various treatments, so it is important for your therapist to select the best mix of essential oils for your requirements.
